Remote Into Windows From a Mac

With Remote Desktop, you can connect to your work computer from home and access all of your programs, files, and network resources as though you were actually sitting in front of your computer at work.

Before attempting this, be sure the computer you are about to remote into is properly set up to support remote desktop. Instructions on that can be found here. Also, instructions on how to install Ivanti Secure for Mac can be found here.

Note: Be sure the computer you are about to remote into is turned on.

Procedure

Download and install the Microsoft Windows App (Previously titled, "Microsoft Remote Desktop") from the Apple store.

- Launch the App Store, Thumbnail image of the Apple App Store iconWithin the Apple App Store, you may be prompted for your Apple ID.  Please note that Apple IDs are not maintained by the University of Wyoming and will likely have different login credentials.

- Search for:  "Microsoft Windows". Select the option to download and install.

2.  The PC name is your office computer's name or IP address..  You may add a Friendly name if that is helpful to identify the PC.  Such as, "Office Computer", or a building and room number.  Click Add when complete.  You may also add your login credentials if you are comfortable doing so and if the connecting Mac is secure.

4.  It will prompt you with a trust certificate, click Continue

Note: The connection uses a self-assigned certificate, so is marked as unverified by an authentication service. This is expected since desktops normally do not have service-assigned connection certificates.

5. You should now have a connection and control of your remote PC.

To disconnect, place your mouse in the extreme upper left corner of the screen to bring down the Windows App menu.  Within the Window menu, choose Close.  You may also opt to log off the computer before disconnecting.
