Email Accounts for Former UW Employees

Introduction

Former University faculty and staff may request that the use of UW computer accounts be extended past the final day of employment. These extended services are not currently available with the user process. Extending email services is sometimes needed for institutional benefit.

Available to

Any former faculty or staff member requesting continuance of a computer account must be approved by the Director of Client Support Services.

Procedure

The department head or dean of the departing faculty or staff member may email a request to the Director of IT Client Support Services explaining the institutional need to extend use of the UW account. The Director will evaluate the impact of each request and grant or deny each request. Email services may be continued for up to six months after the employee’s final day of employment. Departments may pay for an individual special account if the email service is required beyond six months.

Cost

This is a common-good service offered to faculty, staff and students which means there is no direct cost to the individual or department.
