Definition
Academic Career – Student Level
Identifies all course work that a student undertakes that is grouped in a single student record (undergraduate, graduate, law, medical, pharmacy).
Academic Course Code
Identifies the code associated with a particular full course (Ex. BIOL1400). A course has many classes since a class refers to the individual section, time, location, etc.
Academic Group – College
Highest level breakdowns of the academic institution for academic structural purposes (Ex. College of Arts & Sciences, College of Law, College of Business).
Academic Level – Student Class
Indicates students academic level (Ex. freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior, etc.).
Academic Load
Identifies the credit load of a student (Ex. Full-time, Part-time).
Academic Organization – Department
Identifies an entity that is part of the administrative structure within an academic institution.
Academic Plan
Identifies a student’s intended or enrolled “major.”
Academic Program
Combines Degree and Academic Plan data fields into one field (Ex: BA in English, PhD in Education).
Academic Term
Identifies the term that a student is enrolled (Ex: Fall, Spring, Summer).
Academic Year
Identifies the academic year (Ex: 2017 = 2016-17 including fall 2016, spring 2017, and summer 2017).
Campus
Defines each campus at an institution.
Completion Term
Identifies the term in which student’s academic program was completed/ degree granted.
Course
Identifies a particular full course (a course has many classes since a class refers to the individual section, time, location, etc
Degree
Identifies the degree associated with an academic plan that is assigned to a student (Ex:Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, etc.). A student can have more than one degree.
Degrees Awarded
Number of degrees awarded to students.
Education Level
Identifies the education level of a degree (Ex: Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral, etc.).
Enrollment Count
Total count of students enrolled. NOTE: this applies to enrolling in multiple settings (Ex:Enrolling at the university, enrolling in a particular class, etc.).
Ethnic Group Code
Identifies code that is associated with ethnicity (Ex: American Indian, Asian, White, etc.).
Gender
Identifies the gender of a student (Female, Male).
Gender Code
Identifies the code associated with the gender of a student.
Headcount
Unduplicated count of students taking classes in a particular term.
Honors
Identifies specific honors associated with a degree (Ex: cum laude, magna cum laude, etc.).
Instructors
Count of instructors via summing unique Instructor IDs.
Instruction Mode
Indicates whether the course component is taught in person, using interactive TV, using World Wide Web, Correspondence, etc.
Instructor Full Name
Identifies instructor first and last name.
Instructor Load
Identifies instructor workload.
Instructor Role
Identifies if the type of instructor (Ex: Ext Term/Track Lecturer, Tenure Track or Tenured, UW Employee, etc.).
Instructor Role Code
Identifies the code associated with the instructor role of an instructor.
Student to Instructor Ratio
The ratio of how many students taking classes to how many instructors teaching (Ex:19 students to 1 instructor). Calculated by total students divided by total instructors.
Year Ago Ratio
The overall student to instructor ratio from the prior year.
Chg Year Ago Ratio
The difference in the student to instructor ratio between the prior and current year.
Session
Subdividing of terms that allows for multiple time period for offering courses within a particular term.
Term
Identifies the term that a student is enrolled in (Ex: fall, spring, summer).
Term Enrollment Count
The total number of students enrolled for during a particular term.
Total Enrollment Capacity
The maximum number of students allowed to be enrolled in courses.
Total Enrollment
Total count of students enrolled. NOTE: this applies to enrolling in multiple settings (Ex: enrolling at the university, enrolling in a particular class, etc.).
Total Wait List
The number of students placed on a wait list. These students will be enrolled in a course if a seat becomes available.
Total Wait List Capacity
The maximum number of students allowed to be on the wait list.
Units Passed for Grade Point Average
The total number of credit hours passed that count towards GPA. Includes grades of A,B,C, D, or S including + /- grades.
Units Passed for Non Grade Point Average
The total number of credit hours passed that do not count towards GPA.
Units Taken for GPA
The total number of credit hours taken that count towards GPA.
Units Taken for Non GPA
The total number of credit hours taken that do not count towards GPA.
Total Term Units
The sum of Units Taken for GPA and Units Taken for Non GPA, also called attempted hours.
