Windows 10 is UWIT’s recommended operating system with its beautiful new Start menu, improved system search function, and ease of use with both mouse and keyboard or a touch screen. Especially if you use a computer that is still on Windows 7, UWIT recommends that you upgrade to windows 10 as soon as possible. UWIT would like to make that process easy, so just answering a couple questions in our request form by clicking the Request Upgrade button will get your information to our upgrade team.

Upgrading to Windows 10 is also recommended because Microsoft will be discontinuing support for Windows 7 in January 2020. This means that Microsoft will no longer put out security patches for Windows 7 leaving it very susceptible to viruses and malware. For the protection of the campus community and data security, computers still running Windows 7 when support ends will have to be removed from the UW network.
