Clearing Java Cache - Windows

Introduction

This guide pertains to Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. If you need Mac (OS X) instructions, please click here.

Note: It may ask you to put in an admin password. If your computer was imaged by the University, call the IT help desk to give you admin privileges up to 90 minutes or have them put an admin password in for you.

Procedure

  1. Click the Start button on your computer and select Control Panel

    • Windows 8: click the Search icon on the Start screen, input "Control Panel", and click Control Panel in the search results. Once open, click Programs.

    • Windows 10: type "Java" into the Windows Search box, click Configure Java, then skip to #3 below.

  2. Under Programs, double-click the Java icon.

    : the icon may say "Java (32-bit)" or "Java (64-bit)"

  3. The Java Control Panel will display.
    Click Settings in the Temporary Internet Files section.

  4. Temporary Files Settings displays in a new window.
    Click the Delete Files button.

  5. Click all the boxes and click OK.

  6. Click OK in the Temporary Files Settings window.

  7. Close the Java Control Panel window.

Finally, you may find it beneficial to close the web browser window that contains the Java content and then reopen it. This will load a new copy of the content.
