Open CSV Files with Excel by Default

Some programs will create CSV files and it can be helpful to have your computer set up to open these by default in Excel, so you don't have to select it every time.

  1. Begin the process of setting Excel as the default CSV program by clicking the Start button at the bottom-left corner of the window, then clicking on Settings, which is the gear icon.

  1. Search for Apps and select Default app settings.

  1. At the bottom of the screen, click Set defaults by app by file type.

  1. Select Excel from the Programs list and then click on Choose defaults for this program.

  1. Check the .csv extension and click Save. This will set Excel as default program for .csv files.
