Setting up Amira/Avizo on Windows 11 (ABR)

  1. Download the Amira/Avizio installer using this link

  1. Run the installer


By default, your computer should put the file in your downloads folder. It should look like the file highlighted. You will want to double click on the file to run the installer. After you double click on the file, give it some time and let it open. Depending on your computer, it might take longer than you’d initially expected.

 

  1. Provide a reason for installation like “Thermofisher application installation" and click OK.


 

  1. After you allow the application to run, the installation wizard will open. Click Next.


 

  1. Accept the license agreement and click Next.


 

  1. Click Next.


 

  1. Select where you want to install the program. Normally the default they give you works but make sure the drive you’re installing the program on has enough space. Click Next.


 

  1. Click Next.


 

  1. Select the “Amira 3D” & “Avizo 3D” checkboxes, then click Next.

  1. Click Next.

  1. You can add desktop shortcuts if you want them but they aren’t required. After making your selection, click Next.

  1. Click Next.

  1. Wait for the installation process to be completed. Note that this will take some time.

  1. You will eventually run into a slew of errors. Click OK and let it continue as the errors pop up.

  1. Click Finish.

  1. Press the Windows key and click “All >”.

 

  1. Click on Amira 3D or Avizo 3D under Thermo Scientific Amira Avizo 3D.


 

  1. Click Yes.

  1. Note the location displayed below, in my case it is C:/Program Files/Thermo Scientific Amira-Avizo3D 2024.2/share/license/TLM
  2. Copy and paste that location into notepad.
  3. Click OK.

  1. Open File Explorer by pressing the Windows key and typing File

  1. Paste the file path into File Explorer and press enter

  1. You should now see the executable file for the License Manager. Double click on the file.

  1. Give a reason and click OK.

  1. Login and click yes or just click Yes. 
  2. Click I Agree.

  1. Select the destination folder and click Install.

  1. Wait for installation to complete.

 

  1. After the installation has been completed, click Finish.

  1. Click Allow. Depending on your system, you may have to login again or click Yes (if ABR, you may need to give a reason).

  1. Click the blue X for now.

  1. Click Install (if you don’t see this page, skip to step 39).

  1. Check the “I agree to the license terms and conditions” checkbox and then click Install.

  1. You will want to say Yes and give a reason.
  2. Wait for the installation to complete.
  3. Make sure you have everything you need saved on your computer, then click Restart.

  1. Wait for your system to restart.
  2. Launch the Thermo Scientific License Manager.

  1. If you had to install the C++ Redistributable, click the blue X again. 
  2. Click Activate license(s).

  1. Next, click License server.

 

  1. Under license server, there will be a textbox and you’ll need to type in: thermofisher.uwyo.edu:27007

 

  1. Click Save.

  1. You should see this now. You can close the License Manager.

  1. Open Amira 3D

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the agreement and click “I accept the license” and then OK.

You should be able to run Amira 3D and Avizo 3D now.
