Changing to Duo Push from Phone Call to Two Factor

Starting March 18th 2024, UW will be using Duo Verified Push for two factor authentication.   This will provide better protection for your account.  As part of this change, phone calls will no longer be an option for completing two factor authentication.  If you have been using the phone call method, you will need to switch to using the Duo app or a Yubikey. This article will show you the steps to start using the Duo app.

If you need a Yubikey, please contact the UWIT Help Desk at userhelp@uwyo.edu or call 766-4357.

The specific screens and options for this procedure can vary by device, browser, and previous account configuration.  If what you see in the procedure does now allow you to complete the steps, please call the UWIT Help Desk at 307-766-4357.

Procedure

  1. Start by installing the Duo app, if it is not currently on your phone.  You can search for Duo Mobile in the app store and it will either show as installed or will allow you to install.  If this is already installed on your phone, please check if it needs any updates.  You will need at least the Duo version below:
  • For Android 10 or later: Use Duo mobile version 4.16.0 or later
  • For iOS 13 or later: Use Duo mobile version 4.17.0 or later

To check your version, open the Duo Mobile App on your smartphone and tap the menu icon. The app version will be displayed in the bottom left corner.

  1. It is recommended to complete the following steps through a browser on a computer with your phone for the Duo activation.  Start by opening an Incognito/Private window of your browser of choice.  This will allow access to the two factor screens even if you normally use the Remember for 14 days check box.

In Chrome:

In Firefox:

In Edge:

In Safari:

  1. Go to WyoSecure.  This process will look most consistent from this login. Complete the first step of authentication with your username and password.

  1. You will get a message about needing to change to Duo.  Clicking the top link will take you to this article and now that you are ready to activate your Duo, click the bottom link.

  1. If your two factor is set up to automatically call you, you will need to cancel that call.  This will allow you to select your settings rather than enter WyoSecure.

  1. Do not complete two factor yet, instead click My Settings & Devices.

  1. To be able to change your settings and devices, you will need to two factor now.  Until March 18th, you can two factor with the Call Me option.

  1. You will see the phone that you have been receiving phone calls on listed.  Click the Device Options button next to it.

  1. Next click the Reactivate Duo Mobile button.

  1. You will get a question about the type of phone.  Select the correct radio button and click Continue.

  1. Since you already made sure you had Duo installed, all you need to do is open the Duo app click I have Duo Mobile installed.

  1. Scan the QR code that shows on your computer screen with the Duo app.

  1. Now you can set Duo to automatically send a push when you authenticate.

Your Duo app is now ready to be used for a Duo push for two factor.  Now when you are completing two factor with Ivanti Secure, you will want to type push to get the push to your Duo app.   In web locations, you will see the screen below and the push will come to your Duo app to approve.
