Installing and using MalwareBytes
Malwarebytes is a free malware scanner that can be downloaded and used for free. You can download it at Malwarebytes Antivirus, Anti-Malware, Privacy & Scam Protection
It can be installed and used as an on-demand malware scanner if you are concerned about your computer being infected with malware.
1. Go to the link provided and select Free Download
2. Once youve download and ran the installer, you'll see the following screen. Start by selecting Install
3. Select Business and Next
4. Select Skip this step
5. This will start the install, once it is finished select Open Malwarebytes, the first time launching it may take a minute
6. Select Get Started
7. Select Maybe later
8. Select Continue with free trial
9. Now that Malwarebytes is installed you can run a scan, select Scan
10. Wait for the scan to finish
11. Once the scan finishes you will be presented with the results of the scan
12. If malware is detected you will be presented with a screen that details the type of malware and the option to Quarantine the malware. If you are concerned about the amount or type of malware send a screenshot to userhelp@uwyo.edu and then select Quarantine.
Malwarebytes is a trusted anti-malware tool that includes a two-week free trial of real-time protection when first installed. After the trial ends, it will prompt you to purchase a license.
No purchase is needed. The university already has two active malware protection tools in place, Webroot and Windows Defender. Once the trial expires, you can continue using Malwarebytes as a free, on-demand scanner to check for malware if you have concerns about your device.
