Admin By Request

Overview

Admin by Request (ABR) allows you to request administrative privileges on your university-owned Windows computer without having to call the Help Desk to request admin access.   Information Technology is deploying ABR in a phased approach to help increase security on campus computers while also providing users with the needed flexibility to use their computers.   During this phased deployment, not all computers will have Admin by Request installed.

Checking for Admin By Request

To confirm is Admin By Request is installed on your computer:

     1. Open your task tray (in the bottom right corner of the taskbar, near the clock.)

FAQs

I can’t find the Admin By Request icon in my task tray.

Information Technology is taking a phased approach to deploying Admin by Request.  Please open a ticket with the UWIT Help Desk, so they can confirm if your computer is eligible, and if so, why the icon is missing.

I see the Admin By Request icon in my task tray but “run as admin/start an admin session” aren’t working.

Information Technology is taking a phased approach to deploying Admin by Request.  In some cases, Admin by Request is installed, but the current user is still a local admin on the machine.  If that is the case, the icon will appear in the system tray, but the option to run as an admin is not available.  If you are not an admin on the machine, but the options are not displaying in the system tray, please reach out to the UWIT Help Desk.

I’m trying to use Admin By Request to uninstall an application, but it’s not working.

To uninstall an application, it is best to start an admin session or use the additional “Uninstall Program” tool, detailed in the Additional Tools section. If you still encounter issues, please open a ticket with the UWIT Help Desk.
