Install SPSS 32 for Mac from the UW Network

NOTES 

  • Functional knowledge and use of this application are the responsibility of the user. 
  • Uninstall any existing SPSS version before proceeding. 
  • A connection to the internet is required for activation. 

 

Introduction 

Information Technology provides SPSS for a yearly fee on UW owned computers for academic teaching and research use only.  For current pricing please see the service page below. There is no requirement for the computer to be connected to the network for the software to run, however it will need to be connected during the installation. To install SPSS from the UW network, an order of SPSS must be submitted to IT here: https://uwyo.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=9585 

 

 

Setup 

You will need to be connected to the UWyo Wi-Fi, UW Wired network, or if working off campus the Ivanti Secure VPN app available at https://wyosecure.uwyo.edu. (Instructions for installing and using Ivanti can be found here) You will also need to have administrative access to the Mac. 

  1. Open Finder (Macs file browser). 
  2. In the menu bar at the top of your screen click "Go" and then “Connect to Server…”

  1. Enter: smb://uwapps.uwyo.edu/SPSS32$/Mac

  1. Click the "Connect" button and “Connect” again if prompted a second time.

  1. You will be prompted to enter your UW user name and password.
    Make sure “Registered User” is selected. And then click Connect - The connection may take a moment to establish.

The check box for remember this password in my keychain is unchecked and the connect button is highlighted in blue with a red box around it indicating you should hit the connect button and not the cancel button next to it.

 

Installation

  1. Once connected, Click on the Mac folder to open it, and download/copy the SPSS-Mac-v31.pkg file by dragging it to your Mac's Desktop.

  1. When it is done downloading, double-click the SPSS-Mac-v29.pkg to open it.

  1. Then click Continue.

  1. When the program opens, make sure it is set to English then click Continue.

     Select Agree to the EULA/Terms.

  1. On the Select a Destination page, select Macintosh HD as the destination drive. (It may be selected by default already)

  1. You may choose to change the installation destination; however, the default is recommended for most users. Once you’ve decided on the destination, click Install. 
  2. Enter your Mac's username and password OR use Touch ID.  The Installer may prompt to access files in the Desktop folder (or in the location where the installer had been downloaded into). Click OK

 

  1. Click Close on the Summary page, where it states "The Installation was successful!"

 

  1. The software is now installed, but it still needs the licensed activated. From the launchpad or Application menu select IBM SPPS STATISTICS and the SPPS Statistics app.

 

  1. Once the Activation window opens, Select Launch License Wizard.

 

  1. Make sure Authorized user license is selected

 

  1. When you requested SPSS, the IT Software Department should have included/emailed you a code. Please enter that code now select add, and then click Next.

 

  1. Once you see the green “Authorization succeeded” click Next.

 

  1. Your SPSS is now licensed.
  2. You can now delete the installation folder off your desktop. And disconnect from the network drive by hitting the eject button in finder under locations.
