Disabling MSDT URL protocol prevents troubleshooters being launched as links including links throughout the operating system. Follow these steps to disable:
- Run Command Prompt as Administrator.
In the search box, type “CMD”. Select the “Run as administrator” option.

Select “Yes” on the User Account Control.

- To back up the registry key, execute the command “reg export HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ms-msdt filename“
Chose a name for the backup file such as “MSDT_Protocol_Backup” and run the command reg export HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ms-msdt MSDT_Protocol_Backup in the Administrator command prompt by typing in the command and selecting return.

- Execute the command “reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ms-msdt /f”.
Run the command reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ms-msdt /f in the Administrator command prompt by typing in the command and selecting return.
