Linux Support

Introduction

The University now provides best effort support for Linux systems. To facilitate this, we are maintaining a Red Hat Enterprise Linux site subscription. Thus RHEL is the officially supported Linux on campus. However, we will make a best effort to support other Linux distributions (distros).

Available to

Linux support and the ability to install RHEL is available to faculty, staff, and students.

Procedure

If you are having problems or have questions about your Linux based system, please click the "Request Linux Support" button and provide as much detail as possible about the problem you are experiencing.

Some applications aren’t fully GUI compliant – they are intended to be launched from the command line. Some of these applications, such as Matlab, have their own windows and are independent of the terminal after launch. Some are intended to run within a terminal window. This article is intended to address the former and not the latter.
The problem, in short, is that Linux doesn’t know Windows exists – you have to inform it.
