Note that these instructions are only for connecting to the share in order to add or remove files, not for viewing the web page/site.
Procedure
Using a Windows Machine:
- Click the Start button at the lower left of the Windows screen.
- The Search programs and files box will appear.
- In the Search programs and files box enter the share path in the format \\server name\share root folder$\client folder.
You need to know your server name, share root folder, and the share client folder to gain access.
- The server name is the server in which your website is located (Boothill).
- The share root folder is the primary location for all of Geology graduate student website content (GeoWeb$\GGstudent).
- The client folder is your specific content, based upon your domain username (Helper1).
A complete path would look like this: \\boothill.uwyo.edu\GeoWeb$\GGstudent\Helper1. Hit the Enter key.
- You must include all three portions of the path to access your content information. The $ must be included on the root folder. The security is set so you can only see your specific content and no other, so if you try to navigate to the root folder (i.e.\\boothill\GeoWeb$) you will be denied access.
