Whitelist and Blocklist Email Accounts Through Outlook

This article is a guide on how to whitelist and blocklist email addresses through Outlook

Introduction 

The University of Wyoming utilizes Microsoft Defender Quarantine for Office 365. This is to best protect our community from spam, phishing, and unsolicited messages. To provide this protection Microsoft uses comprehensive, automated security features. With this, their security may block messages that you would like to go through, if this is the case please do the following steps: 

  •   Send an email to userhelp@uwyo.edu and fill out the needed information

    • The Sender's Email Address 

    • An Attachment of the Email 

    • Any Information on why message may have been blocked 

    • Confirmation that notice was received by the sender that indicates the message was blocked

Whitelisting Particular Email Address 

Any emails that appear in the contents from quarantine@messaging.microsoft.com or when you log-in to the quarantine page, HERE, may be added to your safe sender list by following the whitelisting steps provided below

Whitelisting Email Using Classic Outlook 

Step 1: Navigate to Home -(Overflow Menu) -> Block -> Junk E-mail Options...

Step 2: The Junk Mail Options Window will open. Ensure you are in the "Safe Senders" tab , then select the "Add" button

Step 3: The Add Address or Domain Window will open. Insert the desired email you would like to be whitelisted, then select the "OK" button

Step 4: The Junk Mail Option Window will appear with the newly entered email address. Select "Apply" and then "OK" to fully add address to the safe senders list

Whitelisting Email Using New/Web Outlook 

Step 1: Navigate to the gear icon in the upper right hand corner and select it to open "Settings

Step 2: Navigate to Mail -> Junk email -> Safe senders and domains , then select the "Add safe sender" button

Step 3: The Add Address or Domain Textbox will open. Insert the desired email you would like to be whitelisted, then select the "OK" button

Step 4: The newly entered email address will appear in the list. Select "Save" to fully add address to the safe senders list

Blocklisting Particular Email Address

Step 1: Navigate to Home -> ⋮ (Overflow Menu) -> Block -> Junk E-mail Options...
