Map a Network Drive for Windows 11

Body

Introduction

If it is necessary for you to often access a network computer or folder for collaboration of work, sharing of files, backing up of data, Web site editing, or any other purpose, mapping a drive to this share can save you time by decreasing the number of steps necessary to access it and will allow you quick access without having to remember the full name or path each time you need access.

In some cases, you will need to have permissions to access a specific network drive, which can be requested from the administrator.

If you are off campus, you will need to be connected to the UW network with Ivanti Secure to connect to a network drive.

Procedure

  1. Open File Explorer.

  1. Click This PC.

  1. Click the 3 dots to show more options.

  1. Select Map Network Drive.

  1. Select any available drive letter.
  2. Enter the path of the network drive into the Folder box.
  3. Ensure Reconnect at Sign-in is checked.
  4. If your computer is not domain joined OR if the sign in credentials for the drive are different than your UWYO username and password, select Connect using different credentials.

  1. Click Finish. If you did not select Connect with different credentials, the drive should connect and open.
  2. If you previously selected Connect with different credentials, it will ask for your username and password. You need to enter 'UWYO\' in front of your username, e.g. UWYO\cowboyjoe, then your password. Check Remember my credentials, then click OK. The drive should connect and open.
