Install SyncBackSE File Backup Software from the UW Network


Information Technology provides and supports SyncBackSE file backup software. To install the software yourself, follow the instructions below. To receive assistance with installation, contact the IT Help Desk at 766-4357, option 1. After installation, see How to Use SyncBackSE to Backup Files.


  1. Click on Start, then Run, and enter in \\uwapps\syncbackse$
  2. Double-click on the file SyncBackSE_Setup.exe. Click on Run if asked Do you want to run this file?
  3. Click Ok in the Select Setup Language dialog box.
  4. Select Next in the Setup - Welcome window.

  5. Select I accept the agreement in the License Agreement window, then click Next.

  6. Click Next in the Information window.

  7. Click Next in the Select Destination Location window (or you may select a different location by clicking Browse). Click Yes when asked to create the destination folder.

  8. Click Next in the Select Start Menu Folder window.

  9. You may select further options in the Select Additional Tasks window.

  10. Select Install in the Ready to Install window. At this point files install.

  11. Select the final Setup options you would like and click on Finish to exit Setup.

  12. Select Yes in the next dialog box if you wish to visit the SyncBack web site.

  13. The Serial Number window will appear.

    To register SyncBackSE double-click on the syncback-se-v5.5.0.9-serial-number.txt file in the\\uwapps\syncbackse$ folder. Select the text string below Serial Number with your mouse and press Control+ C. This text will then appear in the serial number field of the registration screen. Click OK.

  14. Click OK in the Information dialog box.
  15. Click Yes in the Confirm dialog box.
  16. If a new version is available there will be a dialog box that will report its availability. (A network connection is required for this to work.) Click on OK. This will take you to the SyncbackSE new versions web page. Full instructions are there for downloading and installing the update.

    If you have the current version a different Information dialog box displays: You have the latest version. No update required.

    The installation of updates follows the same procedures listed above, with the exception of not having to register.
